Members of REB interested in Utility Scale and Storage options are investigating changing the source of energy used at a 'utility scale' including waste to energy projects; utility scale renewables, battery storage and micro grids. Members are currently:
RESEARCHING waste to energy projects; utility scale solar farms; storage batteries; micro-grids; pumped hydro & other options. Of particular interest to member researcher Adrian Howden is Sierra Energy's FastOx(R) Gasification based waste conversion system. Adrian has held a number of discussions with Council staff about the feasibility of establishing a regional waste to energy project in Benalla. Further discussion with council will continue. The potential and viability of a pumped hydro option which utilises small generators installed in Benalla's water supply pipes often comes up during our discussion of utility scale projects. A publication by the US Department of Energy which considers such options - 'Pumped Storage and Potential Hydropower from Conduits' Report to Congress 2015 - may interest the technically minded.
MONITORING proposals and planning submissions in the community and disseminating information about utility scale initiatives which have synergy with REB's vision and goals.
